Why Helper?

The concept Helper has trifold importance to my identity as a writer. The Greek term paraklete/parakletos that is often translated as “helper” in the New Testament, Romans 8:26 and elsewhere, refers to the role of Holy Spirit, whose indwelling I see as generative of all man-made art and a source of spiritual kinship. Similarly, the Hebrew scriptures refer to Eve as ezer, which can be translated as “helper,” or more appropriately, “ally,” pointing to my core familial identity as a husband and father, an intimate helper of my kin. Finally, I am a licensed clinical social worker in the helping profession, where I endeavor to be kin to all.
